Releasing a sound of hope to unite the nations.

Born as a first-generation American in Clarksburg, West Virginia to Congolese parents, singer/songwriter Medi Kay has always carried a passion for connecting to people across cultures through music. As he was raised in a multicultural household, Medi grew an ever-growing admiration for unique artistic expressions. “I believe that every culture beautifully reflects the nature of God in its own beautiful way,” Medi shares. “It really fills me up to explore and learn the sounds of these different cultures.”

Whether he was diving deep into his Congolese roots, dancing to the rhythms of soukouss and sebene, venturing into the streets of London in UK hip-hop/grime, getting lost in the silky harmonies of Brazilian gospel music, or relaxing to the soothing melodies of R&B/soul—Medi's developing love for music was always attached to a fascination of its culture of origin. It is from this place that Medi Kay began his journey as a musical artist.

Drawing his inspiration from the likes of Mali Music, Chandler Moore, Brandy, Makoma, and The Walls Group, the young vocalist presents a diverse sound to his listeners, blending elements of pop, hip-hop, gospel, and afrobeats. He has excelled in his career to record and perform with artists from across the world, including Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Chandler Moore, We The Kingdom, Dena Mwana, Sandra Mbuyi, Crowder, and Maverick City Music.

Medi spent two years recording and performing as an official member of the Maverick City Music Choir. Some notable moments of his involvement with the quickly-growing collective include recording on their debut album, Maverick City, Vol. 3: Part 1 and Maverick City, Vol. 3: Part 2; performing with Maverick City Music in Atlanta for their first-ever live appearance alongside Dante Bowe, Naomi Raine, and Joe L Barnes; singing on the GRAMMY award-winning album Old Church Basement, in collaboration with Elevation Worship; and performing with the Choir alongside Crowder for their first appearance at the K-LOVE Music Awards. During a worldwide lockdown, Medi worked alongside the Maverick City Music Choir to arrange and produce a virtual choir version of their song, Promises.

His debut single with Sandra Mbuyi, “Voici La Fin,” was met with international acclaim and became an anthem of hope for listeners everywhere, from the United States to Australia. His next single, “My Maker” continues to be celebrated as a favorite for listeners across the African diaspora. In 2020, Medi released his first EP, “Here On Earth,” a piano-led offering of popular holiday and worship song adaptations. Medi’s aim is to use his passion for thought-provoking lyrics and ear for melody and harmony to create authentic works that engage listeners from all backgrounds and walks of life. At the heart of every composition is his desire to deliver a message of healing to the brokenhearted.

As a songwriter, Medi has composed and arranged pieces with the goal of uplifting and uniting generations in worship. He spent time as a writer for Kingdom of Priests, a praise & worship collective of young musicians and writers from across the United States. He has hosted multiple writes with Writing Rounds, a Tennessee-based songwriting group that spans multiple genres. One of the songs from his hosted writes, Move to Your Melody, was recorded by Stellar award-winning gospel artist Isabel Davis and featured on her sophomore album, The Invitation.

In June 2021, Medi released a collaborative single, Let Go, alongside UK-based musician and producer ManLikeWills. Later that year, he was a featured songwriter, lead vocalist, and arranger on Kingdom of Priests’ first full-length LP, Just the Beginning, released in December 2021.
